Fall is a time to treat for weeds

29 September 2009 No Comment

gardeningFall is a great time to get lots of work done in the yard. The weather is cooler the trees are turning colors and your weeds are storing up for next Spring.
That’s right the weeds in your lawn are getting ready for next Spring! Most plants begin to turn their energy to making their root systems strong when the days start getting shorter and the nights become cooler.
You can use that to your advantage in your fight against the perennial weeds in your lawn.  Post-emergent or broad leaf herbicides become more affective in eliminating most weeds in the fall.  Since the weeds are using their energy to store nutrients in their root system instead of using it to create foliage or flowers above ground, the herbicide is moved to the root system.  This make the herbicide much more effective in killing the plant.
So does this mean the weeds are helping you to have a weed free lawn?
